S. Angelica's memorial card

"I place all my trust in you, O Lord,
All my hope is in your saving word."
Ps. 130

Sister Angelica was the middle child in a family of fourteen, the children of James R. and Ethel Clarke Heiney. She attended the Cathedral School in St. Joseph, Mo., and entered Mount St. Scholastica when she was nineteen. She made monastic profession in 1941 and earned the Bachelor of Science in education with a minor in psychology from Mount St. Scholastica College. For thirty years she taught primary school children and prepared children for First Communion. She spent nine years in Salisbury, Mo, and also taught in many of the community's elementary schools in Kansas City. At the Mount since 1971, she assisted in the convent office, coordinated transportation, was secretary for the convent service center, and for the last twenty years was sacristan for the choir chapel. She tried to have everything perfect for Eucharist and carefully trained those assigned to assist her. She liked to read and to walk, every day traveling the campus, frequently saying the rosary as she went, keeping an eye on the grounds and the student activities. She was a loyal and vocal sports fan, rarely missing a Royals or Chiefs game on the "big" TV. She had a hearty laugh, and liked to swap stories. Hospitable to guests, she also valued monastic space and quiet time. Her final illness was quick in its effects, and though she had some good days, she did not linger long. Let us remember her in grateful prayer.
