Dale Foster Hegwer, 83, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at his home in Carthage, Mo., following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Sarcoxie, Mo., the son of Julius Bowers Hegwer and Lulu Belle (Foster) Hegwer. His parents and a brother, Francis "Cig" Hegwer preceded him in death. He was a 1943 graduate of Sarcoxie High School and attended one year of college. He served in the United States Army Air Corp. He married Thelma Good on Dec. 25, 1943, in Joplin, Mo. She preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2008. He owned and operated the Western Auto store in Carthage, from 1965 to 1977, he then was a partner with Southwest Insurance Agency. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 54 years, a member of the Shrine Club for 53 years and was active with Shrine Train Crew. Three children, Genia Laney and husband, David, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., Richard Hegwer and wife, Peggy, Carthage, and Mary Beth Peterson and husband, Bruce, Greenville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Kevin Laney, Jason Laney, Ryan Laney Brad Hegwer, Matt Hegwer, Sam Hegwer, Erin Bernal and Daryl Peterson; and 14 great-grandchildren survive him. A visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 26, from 6 to 7 p.m. with masonic rites at 6 p.m. at the Knell Mortuary. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Park Cemetery, Carthage. The Rev. James Lee will officiate.
