He was a teacher at the Old Flatbush Dutch Reformed Church School and the town clerk for many years. He also worked as a weaver during his spare time. He became one of the finest at his trade on Long Island. One of his pieces survived into the mid nineteenth century and was highly regarded. He married Martha Van der Beek on Dec. 3, 1714 at the Flatbush Dutch Reformed Church. Martha (Van der Beeck)* Hegeman was the daughter of Jan Remsen Van der Beek and Metje (Janse-Damen) Van der Beek. They lived on Flatbush Ave. After the death of his first wife Martha, Adrian Hegeman married Adrianetje. His second marriage was without issue.
*There is some conflicting evidence in regards to Martha Van Der Beeck being the first wife of Adrian Hegeman.

Rem Hegeman (1725-1761). He married Metja Suydam in Flatbush on Dec. 3, 1748. Rem (1725-1761) and Metja (Suydam) Hegeman had a son; Rem Hegeman (1755-1820). Rem Hegeman (1755-1820) had a son; John Ditmas Hegeman (May 7, 1776-May 31,1835). John Ditmas Hegeman married Adriana Vorhees. They had a son; John Garrett Hegeman (Feb. 16, 1816-Oct. 29, 1845). John G. Hegeman married Charlotte Rogers (1819-1898). They had a son; John Rogers Hegeman mem.# 42638812. John R. Hegeman was the president of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was an entreprenuer and philanthropist. He was responsible for the constuction of the world's tallest building from 1903-1913. The Metropolitan Life Insurance Building was surpassed by the Woolworth Building as the world's tallest structure. John Rogers Hegeman and Franklin Winfield Woolworth each have a mausoleum in the prestigious Greenwood Cemetery located in the Bronx, NY.

*Adrian Hegeman (1736-1809). He married Jane Johnson (1740-1808). Like his father before him, he was a schoolteacher at the Old Flatbush Dutch Reformed Church School. Adrian Hegeman and Jane Johnson Hegeman are buried in the New Utrecht Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery later to be the St. John's Lutheran Church and today known as the Metropolitan Baptist Church in New Utrecht, Kings County, Long Island, NY.
