ABERNATHY - Death visited our town last Wednesday, April 21, 1920, and claimed as its victim Mrs. E. P. Crow, one of our most estimable women. After a long and continued suffering she passed quietly away at her home in the south part of town. She was one of our best citizens and had lived here several years. During this time she had endeared herself to all who knew her.
She was a member of the Baptist Church and had been for 40 years. She was a good Christian woman, and loved by all who knew her. No one was more loyal to her church then she. As a friend kind, as a wife, true, as a mother affectionate.
Funeral services was held in the Baptist Church Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Pastor, J. W. Hembree, and assisted by Rev. G. I. Brittain of Plainview, also Rev. S. J. Upton, pastor of the Methodist Church. There was the largest congregation of people that has ever assembled at a funeral service in our city. After an impressive service she was laid to rest in the city cemetery. She leaves a husband and eight children to mourn her going, also 24 grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends to miss her.
There is no one who will be missed more than "Mother" Crow, she was always present to assist where there was suffering or one in need of comfort.
We will hear her kind voice no more nor will we be permitted to see her as she quietly went about administering to those in need. We would say to the husband and children, weep not for her, she is at rest and anxiously awaits your coming to her.
Our town has been made better by her passing this way. Our entire citizenship joins in extending sympathy to Brother Crow and children and all the relatives and we would say to her, "Sleep on "Mother" Crow, you have wrought well and after awhile, we will meet again never to be separated no more." May the memory of "Mother" Crow and the comforting spirit of God, comfort all your hearts.
