Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus by Dr. Ard Hoven for Mrs. Ida M. Brown, 71, 2210 Marr Road, Apt. 8, Columbus, mother of Joseph and Russell Brown of Edinburg, who died Saturday at Bartholomew County Hospital.
Burial was at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburg.
Mrs. Brown who retired from teaching in 1962 was born September 7, 1900, in Boone county, the daughter of Albert and Ella Montgomery Hedrick. She was a graduate of Franklin College and was married to Delbert Brown May 28, 1924. He died December 7, 1969.
Mrs. Brown first taught all eight classes in a one-room school. She also taught at Harrison Township schools and retired while teaching at Kent School in Bartholomew County. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Columbus and the Royal Workers class of the church.
Survivors include a third son, James L. Brown of Columbus; a daughter, Mrs. Ernest Smith of Columbus, and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ellsworth Hedrick.
