Alice Ruth Hecker, 85, of New Kensington, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, in her home. Born June 10, 1922, in New Kensington, to the late George and Alice Walker Parker, she was a resident of the area her entire life, and a 1940 graduate of New Kensington High School. From 1965 until her retirement in 1990, she owned and operated Alice Hecker Ceramic Studio in her home. She volunteered in the New Kensington Arnold School District in their tutoring program. Alice was an honorary member of East Kensington Community Circle in New Kensington, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 92 in Lower Burrell, and the former Rebekah Lodge in New Kensington. She loved spending time with her family, especially the many trips to their cottage in Cooks Forest. She also enjoyed reading. Survivors include her children, Melinda R. (Robert T.) McNutt, of New Kensington, James W. (Virginia) Hecker, of Plum, Bonnita S. "Bonnie" (Richard) Ciesielski, of New Kensington, and Sarilee A. "Sally" (Keith) Swanson, of Mt. Jewett; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George R. Parker, of Lower Burrell, and Robert H. (Emma) Parker, of New Kensington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hall Hecker, in 1998; son, Thomas G. Hecker; grandson, Andrew Hecker; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Parker. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Funeral service will be private with the Rev. Richard Green, pastor of Hillcrest Alliance Church, Lower Burrell, officiating. Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
