Edward F. and Josephine Heck Auer

Edward Francis b. 26 July 1884 near Garnavillo, Ia., son of Frank Auer II and Marie Ann Schmelzer. He was two and a half years old when his mother died, and when his father remarried the five small children were cared for by their stepmother. Edward was raised on the Frank Auer farm.

On 1 Feb. 1910, Edward married Gertrude Josephine Heck at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Garnavillo. They farmed in the Elkader area for two years, north of Garnavillo six years, and then operated one of Frank Auer's farms near Garnavillo for nine years. In 1927 they purchased the Cam Rowland farm north of Monona in Allamakee Co., where they lived until they retired to Monona in 1952. Edward d. 15 Sep. 1961 and Josephine d. 12 Jan. 1968, both buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Edward and Josephine were the parents of 12 children: Leona J. m. Bernard H. Voss (see article). George Francis b. 20 May 1912, is retired, lives in Waukon, Ia. Korona Mary b. 13 Jan. 1913, m. Leo Ohlhert, lives at Plover, Wis. Raphael Loras b. 6 Oct. 1915, d. 12 Sept. 1917, buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Garnavillo. Gertrude m. Joe Rose (See article).

Laura Agatha b. 13 March 1918, d. 21 Oct. 1923, buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Garnavillo. Mary Kathryn b. 21 Aug. 1920, m. Don Stein, lives Superior, Wis. Eileen Cecelia b. 14 May 1922, m. Lee Allen Johanningmeier, R.R., McGregor, Ia. Dorothy Mae b. b. 18 Sept. 1923, d. 21 Jan. 1945, buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Monona. Ralph Joseph b. 3 Jan. 1926, m. Ruth Hayes, Postville, Ia. Edward Francis b. 16 Jan. 1928 m. Peggy Cornwell Green. Angela Rita b. 22 Feb. 1930, m. Thomas Hogan, Postville, Ia.

Their are 41 grandchildren in this family, all of whom helped them celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1960. At this time there are 73 great-grandchildren, descendants of this couple.
