EAST LIVERPOOL - Anna Heck Smith Armstrong, 94, of East Liverpool, went to be with her Lord at 1 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the East Liverpool Convalescent Center following a short illness.
Born in Fairmont, W.Va., on June 7, 1916, a daughter of the late Albert Guy and Bertha Ellen Vaughn Heck, she had lived in East Liverpool since 1985 but previously lived in Mannington, W.Va., and Fairmont, W.Va.
A 1934 graduate of Mannington High School, she worked as a telephone operator from 1934 to 1941.
Alongside her husband, Allen, she helped manage the family-owned business, Fairmont Cyclery. She also worked at Hartley's Department Store and Klingensmith Music Store in Fairmont.
She was an active member of the Fairmont Free Methodist Church and later, upon moving to East Liverpool, the Oakland Free Methodist Church, where she participated in the Keen-agers and CLC. She also enjoyed attending the Open Door Fellowship where, she was an active member of the worship team until recently.
An avid bowler, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. She also traveled to Paraguay on two separate mission trips.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen F. Smith, who died Feb. 20, 1967. She later married Rev. Romaine Armstrong; together they served Free Methodist churches in Butler, Apollo and Sarver, Pa. until his death on April 4, 1983. She was also preceded in death by her son, Allen R. Smith, and his wife, Bobetta; a step-daughter, Constance Arnett, and her husband, Lloyd; three brothers, Clyde, Richard and Roy Heck; and a sister, Ruth Moore.
Surviving are: a daughter, Marilyn Smith Kelly and her husband, Ronald, of East Liverpool; and a son, Jeffrey G. Smith and his wife, Dina, of Fairmont; as well as a sister, Lorena Heck, of Clearwater, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Mida Heck, of Baltimore.
There are 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit Sunday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Pastor Jeff Smith of Open Door Fellowship will conduct a celebration of life service at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial is to be at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, W.Va.
Following the service at the funeral home, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship prior to traveling to the cemetery.
