Patriarch of Gary's own "The Hearne Family" was born in Terrell, TX, on August 5, 1924, to John and Mamie Hearne. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1944. He met and married Annie B. Bridges in 1944 and to this union 12 children were born. He moved to Gary, IN, in 1952 and was employed with the U.S. Steel Corp.-Gary Works. He was a faithful member of the New Life Outreach COGIC until his sudden death. He was a very fun and loving man and touched the lives of everyone that met him. He was a former musician and still loved playing the piano in church. He is preceded in death by 3 sons, James, Jerry & Donald Hearne; 1 brother, Charles Hearne; mother and father, John and Mamie Hearne; grandson, Jerome Haley, Sr.; great-grandson, Anthony McClendon, Jr.; nephew, Ray Bridges. He leaves to cherish his memory: "The Hearne Family" 6 daughters, Missionary Robert Ann Hearne (Clifford) Jenkins, Betty Hearne-Johnson, Sheila Hearne (Richard) Parker, Gwendolyn Hearne-Henderson, Missionary Loretta Hearne (Pastor Douglas) Thames, Sr., Jackie Hester; 4 sons, Ronald (Doris) Hearne, Phillip (Betty) Hearne, Brian (Delores) Hearne, and Carl (Octavia) Jones; 2 sisters, Mary (Frank) Jenkins, Carrie (David) Lake; sister-in-law, Christine Hearne; best friends, Joe and Annie Hearne Brown; 42 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchil-dren; 6 great-great grandchildren; a devoted brother-in-law, Pastor Leonard (Helen) Bridges, Sr.; 2 daughters-in-law, Jane Hearne, Brenda Hearne, and the New Life and Faith Tabernacle Church Families; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation Sunday, September 24, 2006, from 12 to 4:00 p.m. at the Guy & Allen Funeral Chapel, 2959 W. 11th Ave., Gary; musical tribute 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the New Life COGIC, 4756 McCook Ave., East Chicago, IN. Funeral services Monday, September 25, 2006, at 11:00 at New Life COGIC, Elder Leonard Bridges, Sr., and Pastor Douglas Thames, Sr., officiating.
