Birth: Sep. 25, 1849
County Cork, Ireland
Death: Jan. 18, 1912
Cook County
Illinois, USA

The funeral of Daniel Healey, who died at the home of his nephew, John Kelly of
Chicago at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, January 18, mention of which was made last week,
took place on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from St. Patrick’s Catholic church
conducted by Father Richard Dollard. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. The funeral
was largely attended by the many friends of Mr. Healey made during his long
residence in this community. The deceased was born in County Cork, Ireland,
March 25, 1847, and at the time of his death was aged 64 years, 9 months and 23
days. With his sister, Miss Mary, and brother, Timothy, he came to America in
1862 and located in Dubuque county and in a few years the parents and the other
members of the family came to this country and located in the same county. Mr.
Healey continued to reside in Dubuque county until 1871, when, with his brother,
Dennis Healey, he came to Taylor county where he resided for two years when he
returned to Dubuque county and was married to Miss Margaret Quigley at Farley
Sept. 4, 1873, then returned to this section and located in Mercer township,
later moving to Holt township, Taylor county, and from there to Jasper township
on the farm which he later sold to George Tracy and on which Mr. Tracy now
resides. In 1900 he moved to Corning where Mrs. Healey died May 14, 1910. To Mr.
and Mrs. Healey no children were born, but they reared John, Michael, and Mamie,
children of his sister, Mary, after the death of their father. After the death
of his wife he made his home with relatives and friends, much of the time
residing with his niece, Mrs. R. P. Kane of Mercer township. Last October he
went to Chicago and was staying at the home of his nephew where the death
occurred. His health had been failing for some time, caused by heart failure and
his condition was considered serious and his nieces, Miss Mary Healey and Mrs.
R. P. Kane were summoned and they reached the bedside at 9:50 and the death
occurred at 10:45. He recognized and spoke to both and asked why they did not
bring the daughter of Mrs. Kane, who was a favorite of his, with them. He was
too weak to carry on a conversation and the peaceful end came in a short time.
The remains were brought to Corning and arrived on No. 9 on Saturday evening.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were John Kelly of Chicago, James
and Anna Healey of Epworth, Ia.; Nellie Quinn, Maggie Hogan, Dan Healey, Maggie
Cameron and daughter of Lenox; Dennis Healey of Creston, nephews and nieces of
the deceased.
