Edmund P. Healey, 81, of Heritage Manor, beloved father of Eddie and Mark Healey, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, from congestive heart failure.
As was Edmund's wish, there was a private family service held Saturday, April 14. He was laid to rest by his beloved wife and son, Mark, at Resurrection Cemetery. Military rites were accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.
Edmund was a decorated World War II veteran and had five medals awarded to him by Tom Harkin, Iowa senator, in 2003. As stated by Senator Harkin on United States Senate stationary "Edmund was awarded the Navy Discharge Button and Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII for demonstrating exemplary conduct, efficiency and fidelity during his four years of service to the United States Navy. In addition, Edmund received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon for heroism during the battles for Iwo Jima and the Volcano Islands. He was also awarded the WWII Victory Medal for participating in the defense of his country and the cause of freedom during the Second World War. Edmund is indeed a hero and deserves this much-delayed recognition. The sacrifices you made to your country will never go unnoticed."
Edmund worked for the Dubuque Packing Company for more than 35 years, retiring after his first heart attack.
He was living at Heritage Manor Nursing Home since 2001. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are a son, Edmund P. (Diane) Healey; a grandson, Kevin J. (Tiffany) Barbour; and a great-grandson, Anakin James Barbour.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in May of 2001; and a younger son, Mark, on Dec. 2, 2002.
