Daughter of Charlotte M Jeffers & Verne Davis Heacock, wife of George Edward Clark

Hannibal, MO - Shirley Irene Clark, 95, of Hannibal, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Beth Haven Nursing Home. Services will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. The Rev. John Hayes will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at Smith Funeral Home and Chapel immediately preceding the services. Irene was born July 28, 1914, in Ralls County, Mo., to Verne D. and Charlotte Jeffers Heacock. She was married to George E. Clark on Sept. 5, 1936, and he preceded her in death in June 1962. Survivors include two sons, Dave Clark of Everett, Wash., and Steve (Linda) Clark of Hannibal; two daughters, Gerry Higgins of Hannibal and Sherri Clark (Tom) Sheelar of Houston, Texas; one sister, June Yates of Fort Dodge, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Greg (Betty Jean) Clark of New London, Terri (Scot) Wade of Hannibal, Lisa (Greg) Gordley of Hannibal, Lori (Darell) Tischer of Hannibal, Leigh Anne Patterson of Houston, Texas, Bryan Higgins of Columbia, Mo., and Stephanie (Rowan) Green of Newport Beach, Calif.; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Delbert Heacock; and one sister, Ruth Griffith. Irene graduated from Ilasco High School in 1932 and Hannibal-LaGrange College in 1934. While in school she was very active on campus and excelled in sports. Irene was a generous person who loved her family deeply and also had an impact on many other lives. She taught in the Ilasco and Hannibal Public Schools and the Salvation Army Day Care. She was a lifelong member of Saverton-Ilasco United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Lighthouse Chapter 194, O.E.S., belonged to the Post Office Auxiliary, the GFWC Study Club and was a Girl Scout leader for many years.; She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, cooking and baking, reading, working crossword puzzles, watercolor painting, traveling and the Wednesday quilting group at the church. Irene lived a full and loving life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Saverton-Ilasco United Methodist Church
