SHREVEPORT, LA - A Funeral Mass for Purificacion "Purcy" Belchez Hays, 56, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010 at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church. Officiating will be Monsignor J. Carson LaCaze. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery in Ringgold, LA. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010 with a prayer vigil at 6:30 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel.
Purcy was born in the Philippines to Alfredo and Salvacion Belchez on July 2, 1953. She passed away in Shreveport on June 7, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was proud to be a U.S. Naturalized Citizen. She was employed as a waitress for 32 years at Kon Tiki Restaurant by its owner Check "Chuck" Wing Joe. Purcy enjoyed her dogs, fishing, gardening, and her flowers. She was a member of Fil-Am Association.
Preceding her in death were her parents, father and mother-in-law, William and Edith Hays and sister-in law, Karen Hays. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 38 years, Mike Hays; brothers, Andy Belchez and wife, Wilma, Junior Belchez; sister, Edna Millamina and her family, especially Dona; numerous step brothers, step sisters and half siblings in the Philippines. Aunt Puring and Uncle Bert; Delia and family; and numerous nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Billy Hays and wife, Mary, Danny Hays and wife, Jan, and Tommy Hays and wife, Pam; special long time friends, Kathy Upton and husband Rick.
Pallbearers will be Chad and Matt Hays, Check "Chuck" Wing Joe, Melvin McCaa, Rick Upton and James Rachal.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Tammy and Collins, also the Staff at Schumpert Medical Center.
