The News-Chronicle, Shippensburg, PA, 1 June 1954: Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29, at Carlisle for Raphael S. Hays, 79, of "Sharon", North Hanover st., Carlisle, who died Wednesday in a hospital in New York City. Rev. Charles H. Davis, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church officiated and burial was in Westminster cemetery in Carlisle. Rev. Charles H. He attended Dickinson preparatory school and was graduated from Dickinson college in 1894. He as a member of the Frog, Switch and Manufacturing company that was founded by his father. In 1918 he became general manager of that concern, in 1935 its president and in 1951, he resigned that position and assumed chairmanship of the firm's board of directors. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Lindsay Gardner Hays; a son, Edward Gardner Hays of Carlisle; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Lee Jacobs and Carlisle and Mrs. Wendell Jones of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.
