Anne Haynes Acey, 81, a lifelong resident of Norfolk, passed away Aug. 16, 2000, at her residence.
Born in Virginia, she retired as a budget analyst from NAS Norfolk Comptrollers. She was an active member of St. Johns United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Virginia Chapter No. 22. Mrs. Acey was an active volunteer in numerous charitable organizations.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Martin Acey Sr.; a son, Elmer Martin Acey Jr.; parents, Herbert Lee Haynes and Mary B. Young; and stepfather, retired U.S. Merchant Marine Capt. George Southerland Young. She is survived by a sister, Martha H. Boone of Norfolk; two brothers, Roy Haynes of Maryland and Victor Haynes of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Robert M. Acey and Charles R. Acey of Virginia Beach; a great-grandchild, Jennifer Anne Acey of Virginia Beach; daughter-in-law, Patsy Sellew Acey of Virginia Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. David L. Wade and the Rev. James Draper. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
