Born March 31, 1931 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Martha Haynes.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Thomas Edward Gurley and three sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Tony Drum and wife Marian and Robin Drum, both of Newton; two granddaughters, Mickie Drum of Newton and Megan Klipp of Charlotte; grandson, Robbie Drum of Newton; brother, Clarence Haynes Jr. of Conover.
The funeral service will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church in Maiden with Dr. Bud Painter officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Maiden.
