Mrs Caroline Hayne Abram, a well-
known former resident of this city,
died Sunday morning at 5:00 o'clock
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G.
U. Sergeant, at Marshalltown.
Mrs Abram went to Marhsalltown
years ago to make her home. She
had been in her usual health until last
Thanksgiving Day, when she was
taken ill. She had been confined to
her bed the last four weeks and death
was due to embolism.
Mrs. Abram was born Caroline
Hayne, in Jefferson County, Ohio, on
May 16, 1850. She lived in Ohio until
she was 18 years of age, when she
came to Iowa with her parents, settling
near State Center.
On Oct. 13, 1871, she was united in
marriage to John Abram, near State
Center. Soon after her marriage they
moved to a farm three miles east
and a mile and a half north of State
Center. Later they retired from the
farm and moved to this city to make
their home. Mr. Abram died here on
July 30, 1920.
Mr. and Mrs. Abram were the parents
of four children, two of whom
died in infancy. The surviving children
are Mrs. Sergeant of Marshalltown
and W. O. Abram of Cedar Falls.
Mrs. Abram is also" survived by six
grandchildren, Lyle Sergeant, Mrs.
Floyd Phipps, J. W. Sergeant, Edith
M. Sergeant and Ann Abram; a great
grandchild, Dorothy E. Phipps; a brother,
U. G. Hayne, Albany, Ore.; and
a sister, Mrs. Belle Shriner, Fresno,
Calif. Mrs. Abram was a member of
the First Spiritualist church of Marshalltown.
Funeral services were held at 1:30
Tuesday afternoon from the Pursel
funeral home in Marshalltown conducted
by Rev. Melvina Taylor. Burial
services were held at the family
lot in Hillside cemetery, State Center
where interment was made.
