Ellen Hayes Bailey
Ellen Hayes Bailey, 1205 El Camino, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, in St. Anthony Hospital, Oklahoma City, from heart complications following knee replacement surgery. She was 68.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Bredesen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home.
Ellen was born Jan. 3, 1933, in rural Ellis County to P.H. and Octie Mae Hayes, the second of eight children to this union, three of whom preceded her in death. Schooling included both country school and Shattuck public school.
On April 1, 1950, she was united in marriage to Ross Bailey at Shattuck. His work required them to live in several western states as well as the United Kingdom, but the majority of her life was spent in Ponca City.
Ellen was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church for more than 40 years. She loved her Lord, loved her family and friends, and loved helping others. She was proud of her volunteer work at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Ross, of the home; daughter Gwen Seeley and her husband Paul, Ponca City; son James Bailey and his wife Lynnie, Ponca City; four grandchildren, Phillip Seeley, Darci Bruce, Jason and Jordan Bailey; two brothers, Calvin Hayes and his family, and Otis Hayes; and two sisters, Lola Furlong and her family, and Irene Czarnick and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Medical Foundation (Scholarship Fund), in care of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, 1900 N. 14th, Ponca City, OK 74601.
The family will be at the home, 1205 El Camino.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 12 noon Wednesday.
