Charles R. (Chuck) Hayes, 60, of Brookside Drive, Rome, passed away, Monday, July 20, 2009, at his residence. He was born January 27, 1949, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Daniel and Goldie Raredon Hayes.
Chuck attended Arkansas City schools and received his Associates Degree from Olympic College. On May 30, 1969, he married Ruth Nelson in Arkansas City. Chuck proudly served in the United States Navy for twenty-six years, retiring in 1992, as a Chief Warrant Officer, during the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield and later was employed by Saturn of Pensacola, Florida. He was a member of St. Paul's Church, the Knights of Columbus, Tappet Twirlers and the Mustang Club of America.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth, one daughter and son-in-law, Amberly and John Stotler, Winchester, Virginia; one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Annette Hayes, Miami, Florida; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Norma Akers, Mulvane, Kansas; Grace Hayes and Georgina and Jim Storts, all of Arkansas City; one brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Robin Hayes, Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren, John Jr. and Shelby, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Rose Cline, Ina Mae Cox, Shirley Ann Hayes and four brothers, Franklin Cox, Clarence Cox, Joseph Cox and Richard Hayes.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday 11:00A.M. at St. Paul's Church. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made in Chuck's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc or the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2246.
