Jacqueline Hayes
(December 12, 1920 - December 30, 2012)

Lucille Jacqueline Hayes, 92, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2012, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born December 12, 1920, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John Sterling Bundy and Edith (Zion) Bundy.
Jackie, as she was known to most, spent her early years in Drexel, Missouri, where she graduated from High School in 1938. She attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg for two years, where she earned a teaching certificate; she subsequently taught at Glendale School, a one-room country schoolhouse near Freeman, Missouri. She later attended Kansas City Business College and worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in DeSoto, Kansas, during World War II.

Jackie was married to Jesse W. Hayes on June 14, 1941, in Harrisonville, Missouri. After Jesse's return from combat service in the U.S. Army in 1944, they made their home in Pleasant Hill for 66 years, until moving to an assisted living facility in Belton in 2010.

Jackie was a homemaker and a substitute teacher in the Pleasant Hill Schools during the 1950s and 1960s. She was also an active member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother in the early ‘50s and a long-time member of the Twenty Friends/Pleasant Hill Junior Study Club. Jackie was an avid worker of cross-word puzzles and could still master them until a few weeks before her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, B.C. Bundy; and a daughter-in-law, Claudia Hayes.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Jesse W. Hayes of Belton; her son and daughter-in-law, J. Michael and Judy Hayes of Cincinnati, Ohio; her granddaughter, Melinda Hayes of Toledo, Ohio; cousins Helen Gress of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Susie Prior of Eden, North Carolina; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law A.J. and Marilyn Hayes of Columbia, Mo., Jerry and Josie Hayes, Jerrall and Nancy Hayes, Ruth Kingsolver, and Chrystal Hayes, all of Pleasant Hill; sixteen nieces and nephews and their spouses, many great nieces and great nephews and their spouses and children, and many, many friends, all of whom she considered family as well.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2012, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Reverend Carl Knapp minister of the church will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
