She was born August 31, 1924 in Galesburg, the daughter of Ernest and Judith Peterson. She married John W. Hawkinson on October 13, 1946, at the Galesburg Covenant Church.
Surviving are: a son, Carl F. (Karen) Hawkinson, Galesburg; a daughter Judith E. (Ron) Hedstrom, Ben Lomond, California; and one brother, Richard (Geri) Peterson, the Villages, FL.
She was preceded in death by her son John Richard Hawkinson and by her husband John W. Hawkinson.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942 and North Park College in 1944. She was a member of the Galesburg Covenant Church since 1940 where she was church secretary for 19 years retiring in 1986. She served two terms as President of Covenant Women, was on the board of Christian Education, the Diaconate, Secretary of the Executive Board as well as a high league counselor, Sunday School teacher and a member of the Chancel Choir. Most recently she was a member of Hannah Circle. She was also active in Republican Women, Dandylions, Home Culture Club and a 50-year member of Lake Bracken Country Club.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
