Apr. 8, 2009 Salt Lake City Salt Lake County Utah, USA
Our Dad and Grandfather passed away peacefully early on the morning of April 8, 2009. He lived to be 91 years of age and was amazed at his own longevity.
Floyd was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Thomas Ernest Hawkins and Myrtle Sherrill Hawkins.
He was the sixth of eight children. Floyd attended Salt Lake City Public Schools and graduated from East High School.
He served in the US Army in Korea and later in the National Guard. He was a heavy equipment mechanic and welder; and retired from Boyles Brothers Drilling Company. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was 28 years old. He was a High Priest in the Hawthorne Ward at the time of his death.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Mel, Gordon, and Sam, sisters Sadie, Marie, and Norma. His first wife, Beverly Thorup Hawkins died in 1942. His second wife, Bernice Skousen Hawkins died in 2005. He was anxious to say "Hello" to those who had passed on before him. He is survived by his son Gary (Judy) Hawkins, his daughter Kathy (Jeff) Henze, nine grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and his brother Tom Hawkins.
At Dad's request there will be no funeral. There will, however, be a viewing held on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street. A short graveside service and interment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Published in the Deseret News on 4/12/2009. (bio by: Ryan D. Curtis)
