Ruth Maxine Dunavent Hawkins, 79, widow of John S. Hawkins died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Georgetown Health Care Center. She was born July 28, 1924 in Owen County and was the daughter of the late Clarence Birchett & Ella Mae Nisius Dunavent. A lifelong homemaker, she was a member of Penn Avenue Baptist Church and the “Senior Friends”, Georgetown Community Hospital Chapter. Survivors include a son: Donald (Sharon) Hawkins, 6 daughters: Patricia Hawkins (Doug Lawrence), Peggy (Phil) Cummins, Susan (Stan) Schu, Mary (Tom) Moss, all of Georgetown, Linda (Gene) Miller, Hermitage, TN & Marilyn (Jim) Phipps, Midlothian, VA, 1 sister: Thelma Pearl Lusby, 2 brothers: Russell & Donald Dunavent, Owenton, 11 Grandchildren & 11 great –grandchildren and a special friend, Zuma Finn. A sister, Katherine Jane Mersch, and 4 brothers, Joseph Clay, “J.C.”, Willard, Eugene “Buster” & Clarence “Jr.” Dunavent preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Thursday at Johnson’s Funeral Home by Bro. Bobby Sageser. Burial will be in the Georgetown Cemetery. Mrs. Hawkins grandsons will serve as active bearers and her sons in law and daughter in law will serve as honorary bearers. Visitation will be 5—8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
