Born January 10, 1967, the son of Ted and Jane Hawkins, Matthew Edward Hawkins passed away in his sleep at the home of his parents following an accident on December 4, 2004.
A graduate of Skyline High School and the University of Utah, he played on the golf teams for both institutions. He returned to Ireland three times after serving a LDS mission because he developed a love for the country and the people.
A business partner with Hawkins and Associates for 15 years, Matt had many interests, which he pursued with passion and dedication. He was especially interested in falconry, fly fishing and fly tying, his dog, Cole, horses and a variety of barn animals. As a young man he would ride his horses to the top of Millcreek Canyon fish, jog and explore. He wrote poetry and children's stories and excelled competitively in long distance open water swimming.
Leaving a void in the lives of all who loved him, Math had a special gift for listening and perceiving the needs of others. A gentle and sensitive person, his love and devotion to his Heavenly Father and his personal testimony was a great strength to family and friends. He was a gentle and sensitive person with a generous and loving heart. Relationships and family were important to Matt.
Survived by his parents, brother Zachary Adam; sisters, Jennifer Gardner (Bret) and Emily Hawkins Marcus (Todd); grandfather, Gene Openshaw; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Matt had a particular loved his for nieces Lauren, Whitney and Marron Gardner.
Services were held at the Mt. Olympus North Stake Center in Salt Lake City. An obituary was published in the Salt Lake Tribune December 7 and 8, 2004.
