Farmer. He was affectionately known by his friends and family as "Doc Hawkins," and lived his entire life in Breckinridge County, Kentucky.

He was the son of Riley Hawkins and Mildred Miller. Doc was born during the Reconstruction Era of American history, just after the conclusion of the American Civil War.

After he married Lula Pate, the couple parented four children. He and his family lived on a farm on Hardin's Mill Road between Hardinsburg and Cloverport. Being devout Christians, they regularly attended Pisgah Baptist Church.

He died at the age of 63.
