The obituary for William Hawk, Sr. stated that he had died Jan 14, 1929 at the home of his son, W. W. Hawk in Shelbyville. Funeral services were held at the home of the son with Rev. L. H. Hostetter of Shelbyville Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Richland Cemetery. Mr. Hawk was born in Butler county, Ohio, August 1, 1833. He was a son of Michael and Elizabeth Hawk. He was united in marriage to Margaret Morris on December 27, 1857. Eight children were born to this union, five having preceded their father in death, J. L. Hawk, Eliza Hawk, Hardin Hawk, Joseph Hawk and Raymond Hawk. The surviving children were Mrs. Jane Peifer of Decatur, W. W. Hawk and Mrs. John Kircher of Shelbyville. Mrs. Hawk died November 15, 1888. Mr. Hawk had lived in Shelby county since 1856 and for a number of years he lived in Richland township and followed the occupation of farmer. He had lived in Shelbyville for thirty-four years. For many years he was employed in the wood working department of the Sturgis plow and scoop board factory. Later he worked as a carpenter and continued at this business until ill health prevented his doing much work. Surviving besides his son and two daughters were a sister, Mrs. Isabell Field of Minnesota; seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Windsor Gazette – 18 Jan 1929
