Funeral services for Elmer Haugen were held Sept. 14 from the First Lutheran church with student Pastor William Johnson officiating. Pallbearers were Thaule Peterson, Wallace Peterson, Wesley Braeger, Walter Quast, Willie Peterson and Lloyd Pehan. Interment was made in Kinkead cemetery.
Elmer Haugen was born in Ida township, Douglas county, May 30, 1884, the son of Lars P. and Anne Haugen. He grew to manhood on his parent's farm. On July 14, 1915, he was united in marriage to Julia Berg at the First Lutheran church in Alexandria. Mr. and Mrs. Haugen farmed in Ida township for 20 years and in 1935 they moved to Alexandria where they have made their residence for the past 18 years.
Mr. Haugen passed away suddenly Thursday morning at his home at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 11 days. Surviving are his wife, Julia, one daughter, (Doris) Mrs. Reuben Bartsch of Portland, Oregon; and four sons, Don, Earl and Kenneth of Alexandria, and Duane of Minneapolis. Also surviving are one brother, Paul of Glendale, California and five sisters: (Celia) Mrs. Keating of Victoria, B.C., (Ella) Mrs. Harvey Hanks of Prescott, Ariz., (Lydia) Mrs. John Olson of Minneapolis; (Thea) Mr. Ole Peterson of Garfield; and (Matelda) Mrs. John Pehan of Glenwood. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren. His parents, two sisters and one brother have preceded him in death.
