Pauline passed away on Monday, December 3, 2007 at her home in Dickinson.

Pauline was born October 27, 1918 the daughter of Jacob and Frances (Reiter) Miller in Daglum, ND. She grew up and attended schools in Stark County. Pauline married Ralph B. Hatzenbuhler on October 20, 1938 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dickinson. To this union five children were born, Ralph Jr., Elaine, Joanne, LaVonne and Dale.

Together they started their life in Dickinson, moved to Beach for a decade and in 1957 returned to Dickinson for more extensive health care for Ralph's Multiple Sclerosis. Her love and commitment to caring for Ralph Sr. at their home has come full circle as she was blessed to have, Dale, LaVonne and George care for her.

Pauline was a wonderful seamstress and made many quilts for her family. She enjoyed arranging floral center pieces and gardening. She was a noted cook and baker and thoroughly enjoyed sharing her special meals and German pastries with others. Pauline especially enjoyed baking around the holidays. It was an unwritten rule at Grandma's that, you had to eat when visiting whether you were hungry or not. Pauline was always concerned with other people's well being.

In her later years, Pauline enjoyed going to yard sales and had an eye for antiques. The family always said that Pauline drew her strength from Mother Mary and praying the rosary daily. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include, a son Dale Hatzenbuhler, Dickinson; three daughters, Elaine (Wes) Erickson, Apex, NC, Joanne Thorstad, Phoenix, AZ, LaVonne (Ken) Keller, Dickinson; a longtime special friend, George Kostelecky, Dickinson; ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Betty Miller and Vivian Miller of Chattaroy, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph; a son, Ralph Jr.; five brothers, Rone, Joseph, Daniel, Jack and Ben and four sisters, Mary Herauf, Elizabeth Huschka, Rose Miller and Barbara Krushenisky.
