Obituary Bismarck Tribune (Sep 14, 2008)
SOLEN - Florence Hatzenbuhler, 74, Solen, died Sept. 11, 2008, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. CDT Tuesday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant and the Rev. Bill Cosgrove as concelebrant and homilist. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. CDT Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Christian Mothers rosary at 7 p.m. followed by a parish vigil. Visitation continues one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

Florence was born April 27, 1934, in Mandan, the daughter of Steve and Catherine (Thomas) Haider. On Nov. 21, 1959, Florence married Joseph Hatzenbuhler. They spent many years together raising six children on their family farm.

Florence enjoyed cooking old fashioned German meals, baking, canning and gardening, but most of all she loved to spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Florence put others first, as she was not one who wanted to be the center of attention. She had a great sense of hospitality and that was shown through many shared meals with family and friends. In addition to her cooking talents she enjoyed embroidery and making towels for her children and grandchildren, always knowing their favorite colors. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Florence will always be remembered for her devotion to her family and faith. We will cherish her sparkling eyes and beautiful smile forever.

Florence leaves behind a loving family including her husband of 48 years, Joseph, Solen; two sons, Joe Jr., Solen, and Dwight (Wendy), Beulah; four daughters, Sharon Hatzenbuhler, Bismarck, Sandi Hatzenbuhler (Basil Joseph), Minneapolis, Tammy (Tim) Skaja, Maple Grove, Minn., and Mary (Russ) Brown, Fargo; 11 grandchildren, Cassie and Derek Hatzenbuhler, Channing, Chelsey, Keely and Whitney Hatzenbuhler, Caitlin and Carlee Joseph, Blake and Evan Skaja and Carter Brown; two sisters, Cathy (Marvin) Kramer, Battle Creek, Neb., and Ann (Matt) Hatzenbuhler, Mandan; four brothers, Leonard (Lenora) Haider, Raymond (Geraldine) Haider and Bob (Sharon) Haider, all of Mandan, and John (Judy) Haider, Solen; and many nieces and nephews.
