Patricia (Pat) Hatzenbuhler Barnes, 62, formerly of Flasher, died Feb. 18, 2011, at Hayden Village Care Center, Hayden, Idaho, after a long illness. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Daniel Berg as celebrant. Immediately following, her siblings will have a private burial at the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
A visit with the family will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Life Center at Christ the King Church, Mandan.
Pat was born on May 10, 1948, in Mandan, to Jacob and Frances (Stegmiller) Hatzenbuhler. She attended school in Flasher and graduated in 1966. In 1977 she moved to Washington and on May 28, 1982, she married Kent R. Barnes. Her last employment was at Skagit Country Club. Due to her health, she retired in 2003.
Pat had a love for animals. She was known to take in any stray cat that came to her door. She also fed the birds and squirrels that came into her yard. Her most recent pets were Sadie Cat and dogs, George Nueson and Webster. Pat enjoyed coming to North Dakota to visit family. She was able to attend all of her nieces and nephews' graduations and weddings. Not having children of her own she loved her stepchildren dearly although she did not want to be referred to as a stepmother. She was also very proud of her step-grandchildren.
Pat will be dearly missed by her husband, Kent, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; stepchildren, Jo Ellen (Darren) Hegge, Kent Jr. (Peggy) Barnes, and Jason Barnes; step-grandchildren, James and Scott Hegge, Justin Barnes, Curtis and Malaya Schmidt, and Dylan, Natoshia, Brecken and Haylee Barnes; brother, Clayton (Evelyn) Hatzenbuhler; sisters, Jackie (Ken) Miller, Tootie (Leonard) Gerhardt, Bonnie (Norman) Erhardt, and Mary Jane (Larry) Hatzenbuhler; 11 nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Ruth Capellen; brother-in-law, Bill (Syd) Capellen; and sisters-in-law, Carol Stott and Sharon Belinger.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and brothers-in-law, Ed Barnes, Denny Stott and Ed Belinger.
