Rose Geiss, 87, Bismarck, died Dec. 23, 2009, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a rosary led by her nieces at 7 p.m. followed by a parish vigil at 7:15 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Rose was born March 21, 1922, in St. Anthony, to Nick and Celestina (Leingang) Hatzenbuhler. She was raised and educated in Solen. On Oct. 28, 1941, Rose married Tony Geiss in Solen where they farmed for many years. In 1947, they moved into Solen. Rose had a daycare in her home, also caring for her grandchildren and the children of teachers in town. After Tony's death in 2000, Rose moved to Bismarck. A wonderful sense of hospitality, she was very warm and welcoming. Cooking German dishes, baking and canning were things she loved to do, and her family greatly appreciated. Rose was a member of the Solen Christian Mothers. A kind and loving woman, she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Blessed to have shared her life are two sons, Ron Geiss, Bismarck, and Richard (Kathy) Geiss, Ellendale; five grandchildren, Bradley (Heidi) Geiss, Charity (Russell) Fix, Mindy (David) Deardurff, Nicole (Derrick) Leithold and Michael Geiss; five great-grandchildren, Emily and Isabelle Geiss, Taylor and Macky Fix and Caden Deardurff; four sisters, Betty Kautzman, Seattle, and Magdaline Balkowitsch, Caroline (Alphonse) Kuntz and Irene Glasser, all of Bismarck; one brother, John P. (Florence) Hatzenbuhler, Solen; and one sister-in-law, Louise Hatzenbuhler.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Tony, in 2000; her parents; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Anton and Jacob (Frances); three brothers-in-law, Tony Kautzman, Bob Balkowitsch and Lawrence Glasser; and a special brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Julia Geiss.
