Alpheus Paul Hatfield, 78, died on April 29, 2006 at the Hospice Care Center, Lexington, Kentucky. Born at Toler, in Pike County, he was a retired school teacher at the Mingo County Schools in Williamson, West Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army, graduated as Valedictorian from Pikeville College in 1957 with an A.B. in Mathematics, obtained his Masters degree from Eastern Kentucky University, and further studied at the University of Kentucky and Marshall University. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa fraternity. He and his wife have resided in Versailles since 1988. He was an active member of the Versailles United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, two grandsons, an uncle, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral: May 2, 2006 at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, Kentucky.
