Gonsalvo Cordova Hatch was born in Quebec, Canada on 9 August 1833. He was the son of Estes Hatch and Susanna Chase Lyford.
Gonsalvo was the first of three brothers to enlist (the others were Marshall E. Hatch and Jerome B. Hatch). He joined Company G of the Third Vermont Infantry Volunteers on 1 June 1861, as a private. Gonsalvo reenlisted on 31 December 1863. He transferred to Company I on 24 July 1864. He was discharged on 17 July 1865. He remained a private during his fours years in the infantry.
Gonsalvo died in Cabot on 3 March 1901.
