Son of Silas Alonzo Hatch and Nancy (Abrahams) Hatch. He had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. In 1887 Charles, his brother Ora, and his parents came to Nebraska. He married Mabel (Belle) Adalade Wilber in Sheridan County, NE on March 4, 1889 at the residence of William J. Harris, Minister of the Gospel. Mabel was born March 28, 1863 in Freehorn, MN, the daughter of Amos Erastus Wilber and Caroline Sophrina (Coe) Wilber. She was among the first teachers in Sheridan County. They had four children, Grace (b. 3/24/1890, d. 2/20/1976), Edna (b. 7/2/1891, d. 10/27/1982), Vern (b. 9/20/1893, d. 5/28/1967) and Lester (8/20/1895, d. 12/16/1982). Charles and Mabel lived in their dugout on his claim in the Albany area. Mabel became ill and died July 7, 1897 and is buried at Grand Junction, MI. Charles married second Mary Hemmer Foster on March 4, 1906.
