Joseph C. Hatch, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2002. Dad was born Aug. 13, 1920 to Joseph A. and Zetta Shakespear Hatch at Tropic. Dad served in the military during World War II along with his two brothers. After serving his country he returned home to Springville.
As many young men, during the mi-40s, Dad worked odd jobs to help support his family. Some of them included working at the steel mill in Utah County, working the mines of Tooele County and any construction work he could find.
While he was working in Tooele County he met Dorothy Oliver who he married in 1945. They later divorced. Dad moved to Vernal where he married Kay Barlow in which he helped raise her three children: Allen, Patricia, and Doug. Many happy times were spent in Vernal even though Dad struggled with alcoholism. He found the strength through a higher power to change his life and that of numerous others. Dad married Mary Perrine Workman in 1976 in Vernal. Dad and Mary enjoyed their golden years by going camping and fishing with friends and family. They loved attending the Hatch reunions where they told jokes and stories to the family. In their later years they enjoyed taking rides on the "mountain" to spot herds of elk and other wildlife.
