KOOSHAREM - Our beloved husband, father and grandfather returned to his Heavenly Father Oct. 22, 2001.
Delray was born May 24 1931, in Koosharem to Andrew Vernaldo and Elnora Olsen Hatch. He married Gay Sharp Dec. 21, 1962, in the Manti LDS Temple. He was a graduate of Brigham Young University, served two years in the United States Air Force and taught school for 34 years at Roosevelt and Kearns Junior High.
After retirement, he worked on the grounds of the Jordan River LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions. He loved his family, the gospel and serving others.
He enjoyed sports. He was an avid golfer and a fan of BYU athletics.
He is survived by his wife, Gay; his four children, Steve (Leslie), Lora (Robert) Smith, Alan (Lori), Lynette (Shaun) Smith; his eight grandchildren, Nikole, Rachel, Sarah, Breanna, Julia, Giselle, Sydnee, Ronnie; his five siblings, Vernelda Washburn, Conrad (Elva), Leila (Gethin) Oldroyd, Vivian (Boyd) Mitchell, Glen (Jane).
Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 26, at the Taylorsville Eighth LDS Ward Chapel at noon, with Bishop V. Frank Coon conducting.
Conrad Hatch (brother) gave the family prayer; Sharon Smith (friend) played prelude and postlude music and Shaun Smith (son-in-law) offered the invocation.
The eulogy was by Steven Hatch (son), and family tributes were by Lynette Smith (daughter) and Glen B. Hatch (brother), with remarks by Donald Fielden (friend).
Music included a selection, "O My Father," by Sandra Whitlock (friend), and a selection, "How Great Thou Art," by Staci Hankins (friend), accompanied by Sharon Smith. Robert Smith (son-in-law) offered the benediction.
Interment was in the Redwood Memorial Estates in Salt Lake City. Pallbearers were Steven Hatch, Alan Hatch, Glen Hatch, Dale Sharp, Robert Smith and Shaun Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Boyd Mitchell, Gethin Oldroyd, Paul Harris and Donald Fielden. Funeral directors, Independent Funeral Service of Salt Lake City.
