Atha passed away peacefully March 3, 2006 at the Care Source after her heroic battle with cancer.
She was born December 13, 1924 in Milliken, CO to Ruby Franklin and Lawrence Deffenbaugh. Graduated with a BA in 1945 from the University of Colorado, Atha taught physical education and dancing. Atha married Bob Ingalls in 1948 who preceded her in death. In 1970, she met and married Frank Hatch in Salt Lake City. Atha was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to all fortunate enough to know her.
Atha loved many things, fishing, golfing, knitting, and playing bridge, but most of all she loved helping people. Joining the PEO Sisterhood in 1946 in Colorado, Chapter O, Atha continued in Utah's Chapter Q and was a founding member of Chapter AI in 1986. Her magic moment came in 1996 when she became a Golden Girl, 50 years of service and love.
Atha is survived by her loving husband, Frank Hatch; brother, Stan Deffenbaugh; and by her sons, Mark and Jeff Ingalls; stepson and stepdaughter, Mike and Kelly Hatch; grandsons Shaun and Forrest Ingalls; and great-granddaughter, Aliza Ingalls.
Atha's wishes shall be honored with a simple funeral service Wednesday, March 8, 2006, beginning at 2 p.m., Wasatch Lawn, 3401 E. Highland Drive, Salt Lake.
