Mrs. Sara Iris Harvell Buckley passed from this earth to be with our heavenly Father on May 10th, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Illness. Sara was preceded in earthly death by her mother Irene Mikell Havell and her father Henry Harvell. She leaves on this earth her daughter Irene Mikell Buckley, Mikell's long time companion Nicole M. Donald, granddaughter Lauren Hayle Sandling and a sister Eleanor Harvell. Sara retired from her career of 45 years with AT&T in the early 1990's where she was active in the AFL-CIO-CWA. Sara was a strong woman who worked actively as a champion of Civil Rights for women and other minorities at a time in America's history when Southern women did not often hold these principles. Sara was tireless in her support of equal opportunity for all Americans. All who knew Sara were aware of her strong will and support of those ideals, as she was not one to "hold her tongue". She will be greatly missed by those who loved her. There will be an intimate graveside service in Sara's childhood home of Columbia, MS in the Columbia City Cemetery at two P.M. on Tuesday, May 14th, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to favorite charities or The Alzheimer's Foundation.
