Harriet Hartmann of Wallkill, NY, a retired antique dealer and resident of the area for over 38 years, died Friday, September 11, 2009, at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital after a brief illness. Harriet would have been 94 years of age on November 22, 2009.
The daughter of the late George Eckardt and Emma Ensminger Eckardt, she was born in North Bergen, NJ.
Harriet and her late husband, Fred, were in the antique business for over 50 years in Ramsey, NJ, Lafayette, NJ and Wallkill, NY and the latter part of those years her daughter, Kerry Konopka and son-in-law, Jim were partners in that business. Harriet served on the Woman's Guild at the Reformed Church of Oradell, NJ and later at the Congregational Church in Closter, NJ.
Survivors include son, Warren Hartmann and wife, Doris of Wallkill; daughter, Kerry Konopka and husband, James of Wallkill; grandsons, Warren Hartmann and his wife, Lea and Kristopher Konopka; great-granddaughter, Juliana Haley Hartmann; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Hartmann; sisters, Ethel Knorr and Jeanne Eckardt; and grandson, Erin Konopka.
Harriet's family would like to thank the aides and friends that not only helped her in her daily life, but also shared in her passion for cooking.
A celebration of Harriet's life will be held at a later date.
