Moved to Muenster by train when he was 20 years old, moving cattle and household items with his parents. 2 years later he married and lived to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their 7 children: Marie, Angeline, Herman, Betty, Dorothy, Loretta, and Leonard. Son Joseph George had only lived 12 days.

He was a farmer, worked for the Farm Labor Union in charge of the egg receiving room and was one of the first employees of the Cheese Plant. From 1942 to 1953 he was the assistant postmaster at the Muenster Post Office.
