Cumberland, MD - Joseph Bernard Hartley, 82, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born June 15, 1930, in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Hartley was the son of the late Randolph B. Hartley and Nela Safrona (Alt) Hartley. He was also preceded in death by his brother: Howard Hartley; his sisters: Genevieve Leasure, Eloise Knippenburg, Betty George, and Ruth Leasure; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Joe was the original owner and operator of Hartley's Pizza. He was formerly employed at Schmidt Bakery for 30 years and his last position was plant manager.
Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years: Julia Hartley: his sons: Randy Hartley, Cumberland, MD; and Steve Hartley and wife, Susan, Fairfax Station, VA; and his daughter: Nancy Kleinman and husband, Jeffrey, Cocoa, FL. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Jason Kleinman, Julie Donovan, Caitlin Blanchard, Matthew Hartley, Brandi Hartley, Taryn Hartley, and T.J. Hartley; as well as 14 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Friday, June 7, 2013, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 11:00 A.M., with his son-in-law, Reverend Jeffrey Kleinman, officiating. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery.
