Betty (nee Hartel) Hardy, age 85, of North Tonawanda, New York, formerly of Murfreesboro, Tenessee, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at her residence, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mildred (nee Platt) Hartel. Mrs. Hardy was a resident of Murfreesboro, Tennessee for 33 years, before moving back home to North Tonawanda two years ago. A loving and caring stay-at-home mom, she was the wife of 62 years of the late LaVerne J. Hardy, who died January 10, 2011, and sister of the late Harold Hartel, Geraldine Turchiarelli, and her twin brother, Thomas Hartel.
She is survived by her three daughters, Verna (James) Cox, Nadine (Bob Sargis) Hardy and Patricia (Kenneth) Ostertag, all of North Tonawanda; three grandchildren, Steven Hardy Ostertag, Amy Lynn Ostertag and Joshua Isaacs; and her sister-in-law, Frances Hartel of Tonawanda. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Friday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday; the Rev. Jeremy Lopez officiating. Friends invited. Entombment at Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
