Born c. 1831 in North Carolina. Farmer and minister in Sardis, Floyd County, GA. Capt., Co. G ("Sardis Volunteers", a unit made up mostly of his parishioners), 21st GA, May 9, 1861. Capt. Co. G, Smith's GA Legion Cavalry, May 8, 1862. Lt. Col., July 12, 1862. Col., 6th GA Cavalry, March 6, 1863. WIA July 21, 1864 near Atlanta. Paroled May 3, 1865, Charlotte, NC. Col. J. C. Nisbet thought Hart "a gallant soldier, a dashing cavalryman, if he did 'love liquor' and would at times imbibe too freely." Arrested by federal authorities in 1865 on charges that his men murdered two federal prisoners but released.
