Son of John Scott HARRISON, a U.S. Congressman (1804-1878) and Elizabeth Ramsey IRWIN (1810-1850); Wife: Elizabeth Lawrence Sheets; brother of Benjamin Harrison, 23rd U.S. President.

Before the Civil War, Archibald Harrison served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 6th US Infantry Regiment from February 1857 until September 1859.
Enlisted on 4/27/1861 at Indianapolis, Indiana as a 1st Lieutenant.
On 4/27/1861 he was commissioned into Field & Staff 8th Indiana Infantry.
He was Mustered Out on 8/6/1861 at Indianapolis, IN.
On 9/12/1861 he was commissioned into Field & Staff 27th Indiana Infantry.
He Resigned on 10/29/1861.

He was known as Irwin by his family. He contracted tuberculosis. Brother Ben arranged for a physician, medications, and trips to Denver for his health. In January 1870, Irwin sent letter to Benjamin that the western climate was providing relief. Benjamin was encouraged by the news that Irwin had gained some temporary relief in the mountain air, though not a complete cure. The climate had restored Irwin's wife's health, but he died in December at thirty-eight years of age. Irwin and Ben had been very close.
