Mary Elizabeth Alexander was born 62 years ago on June 9, 1941
to the late Lucy Espy Harris and Johnny Harris in Murfreesboro,
Tennessee. She was a life-long resident of the Hickory Grove
Community and was educated in the Rutherford County public
schools. She was baptized at an early age and her church
membership was with the Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church
in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother,
sister and friend. Her family and friends called her "Lib." "Lib"
loved to cook and she probably cooked something for everybody
that she knew, within a 100-mile radius of her home in Hickory
Grove. She loved to pick turnip greens and cook up batches of
them to give away to family and friends. Her chicken and dressing
and her chess pies were very delicious and she was always trying to
make sure that the pies weren't too sweet.

In addition to cooking, she also loved to collect and give away
ceramic angels. She had tiny angel figurines and large statue type
angels, too. Her generosity was shown in so many ways. She gave
little "love gifts" to people and was definitely a "people person".
Lib referred to everyone with a special nickname and she said it in
such a way, that people thought they were the only ones that she
was affectionately calling - her 'Pookie" or her "Poo Poo".

Music also meant a lot to "Lib" and as a choir member, she loved
to sing her favorite solos at church services. "Mary, don't you weep"
and "I Got A Right to the Tree of Life" were her favorites.

When she was younger, she worked at the John Coleman School in
Rutherford County and she also worked in the housekeeping
department of Central State Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. In
recent years, her "job" was cooking for everybody and taking care
of everybody.

And she died in the Middle Tennessee Medical Center on March
15,2004, surrounded by her beloved family and friends. She leaves
to cherish her memory, her devoted companion, Leonard Crawford;
her devoted children, Charles "Buster" Harris, Clifford "Cee Cee'
Harris, Barbara "Tiny" Alexander (Melvin) Bass, Beverly Ann
Chapman, Marie "Wee Wee" Myrtle (Isaac) Malone, Marvin
Alexander and Patricia Summers; grandchildren, Leon, Adrian,
Tawanta, Chunky, Ashton, Dorothy and Jerry; great grandchildren,
Trinity, Xylia and Bubba; brothers, Ernest (Mary) Harris, Richard
(JoAnn) Harris, Hollis (Mildred) Harris, Will "Bud" Davis Harris;
sisters, Sabra (James) Johnson, Betty Brown and Janie Frazier;
devoted friends,Teresa Hollingshead, Grannie Brewer, Gracie
Sanders, Dorothy Sanders, Noland Johnson, Ron Garrett and Jessie
Harris and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her
parents, her daughter, Trina Patrice Alexander, preceded her in
death.
