Adoptive Mother Evelyn Durant
Betty Jean Durant Atkinson, 72, of Scranton, SC died Thursday, February 13, 2014 after an extended illness.
Mrs. Atkinson was born July 21, 1941 in Hemingway, SC to the late Eugene and Bertha Hartley Harrelson. Betty was a member of Prospect Pentecostal Holiness Church since 1978. She worked for many years with Baxter Industries. Mrs. Atkinson was a loving mother, grandmother and great-mother.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Atkinson; two sisters, Cindy Floyd and Joyce Coley; two brothers, Glenn Durant and Kenneth Durant; her parents and her adopted parents, Laverne and Evelyn Huggins Durant.
Betty is survived by her children, Richard G. (Julie) Atkinson of Johnsonville and Timothy L. (Jennifer) Atkinson of Scranton; three brothers, James Durant of Lake City, Dan Durant of Charleston and Frank Harrelson of Dillon; a sister, Vonnie Durant of Johnsonville; four grandchildren, Rachel Atkinson, Joshua (April) Atkinson, Cody Atkinson and Brittany (James Stone) Atkinson; a step-grandchild, Austen McKenzie; and a great-grandchild, Karter Stone.
The family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Prospect Pentecostal Holiness Church. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the church. Burial will follow at Eaddy-Ford Cemetery.
