CUMBERLAND - June Wendell Burkey, 88, of Cumberland, died on Friday, June 1, 2007, at her home.
Born June 21, 1918, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John William Harper and Hattie Catherine (Bovey) Harper. Mrs. Burkey was also preceded in death by her husband, Sherman L. Burkey, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A homemaker, Mrs. Burkey was a member of the McKinley Chapter 12 Order of the Eastern Star, the Grand Lodge of the Ladies Auxiliary, and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald W. Burkey and his wife, Donna and John L. Burkey; her grandchildren, John L. Burkey Jr. and Stephanie L. Burkey, all of Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The McKinley Chapter 12 Order of the Eastern Star will conducted a service on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
