George E. Haroldsen

George Edward Haroldsen, 85, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 22, 2006. His life was a testament of his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. "Well done thou good and faithful servant" (Mathew 25:21). He was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Born May 14, 1921, in Jersey City, New Jersey, George was a resident of the Tri-City area for 39 years. Subsequently he obtained a Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, Calif., in 1954, and became an ordained minister. He served in the Army Air Corps for four years during WWII. Following this he served in the Navy as chaplain for 20 years until he retired as a lieutenant commander in 1973. His chaplaincy included three tours of duty in Vietnam as well as tours in Japan and Hawaii. He also served as a chaplain at LA prison and LA Union Rescue Mission. Locally he served as an associate pastor to the First Baptist Church of Oceanside, was a practicing marriage, family and child counselor, served as chaplain for Tri-City Hospital, chaplain for Hospice of North Coast, and taught at Mira Costa College. He enjoyed reading, writing, woodworking and fellowship of family and friends.

Ruth, his wife of 53 years, preceded George in death. He is survived by a sister, Edna Caliendo of Raleigh, N.C.; three daughters, Patricia Kanehailua of Oceanside, Melody Hoeffs of Carlsbad and Debbie Lifsey of Glendale, Ariz.; two sons, David Haroldsen of Escondido, and Peter Haroldsen of Irvine; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
