The Southeast Missourian June 30, 1944 reported that Lieut. Alfred C. Harnagel was killed April 21 at New Romney, England. He was on a practice flight when he was killed. He had entered service in September, 1941 and after training was made an instructor. He then entered flying school and received his wings in August, 1943.

His World War II Draft Card gave his full name and birthplace. His family was in Lucas Co., Ohio in 1920, and Jackson Co., Illinois in 1930 and 1940.
