Birth: Oct. 29, 1926
Iowa, USA
Death: Aug. 30, 2011

Dorothy Harms, 84, was warmly welcomed into the arms of the Lord on August 30, 2011.

Dorothy was born in Gant, Iowa, to Mary and Lawrence Allison. She was married to Carl D. Harms. They had two rowdy sons together, Kenneth and James.

Dorothy enjoyed family and wanted to be near her grandkids, so she and Carl moved from Clarinda, Iowa, to Bellingham, WA, in the late 1980's. Dorothy was a wholesome woman who treasured her relationship with the Lord and enjoyed regularly attending church. She was involved with the Quilting Ladies at Redeemer Lutheran Church and made several beautiful quilts for her family and others.

In her youth, Dorothy held various positions such as a housekeeper for Clarinda Municipal Hospital, a waitress, a production worker at a hair curler factory, and in electrical component manufacturing at Kearney Corporation.

Plants, vegetable and floral alike, flourished under her green thumb; her favorite flowers were peony roses.

Dorothy's voracious love of reading spread to her eldest granddaughter and her two children. Many summer afternoons were spent on the patio with her granddaughters shelling peas, shucking corn, and having apples stolen from the enamel bowl by her youngest granddaughter.

Her husband, Carl, and her younger son, James, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her older son, Kenneth, and his wife, Elizabeth; her six grandchildren, Tammy, Little James, Carl, Serena, Tiffany, and Amber; her three great-grandchildren, Montgomery, Luisa, and Lilliana; her sister, Marjorie; and her brother, J.D.

Her smile and her love will be greatly missed, yet cherished in our hearts, for we are the ones blessed to have loved her.

Services will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bellingham, with interment to follow at Moles Greenacres Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
